Is integrated energy our next climate hero? How connecting buildings, fleets and grids can fuel the future

Cara Carmichael, a former RMI buildings expert temporarily assigned to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, will be speaking in the official Climate Week programming with other experts on integrated energy. Solar is now the cheapest electricity, battery prices have dropped by over 80% in the last two decades, and electric vehicles are disrupting the utility sector. But connecting these solutions together across buildings, fleets and grids can deliver climate and commercial benefits that far exceed anything done in isolation. This session will challenge and inspire industry professionals, policymakers, and green power enthusiasts to take a systems-thinking approach to transform our energy systems at scale. Read Cara’s co-authored report on Cost-Effective Grid-interactive Efficient Buildings. In person registration is sold out but virtual access is still available.

Industrial Decarbonization: Pouring the Foundation for Transition Finance in Heavy Industry

No climate conference would be complete without a session on the role of finance in decarbonizing heavy industry, which is responsible for 30% of global emissions. Access to capital remains one of the biggest barriers to progress for these sectors. This discussion will move beyond the usual calls for increased capital and government action and instead focus on how critical actors in this space are making decisions: How does a financial institution align its climate goals with business in these sectors? What projects are reaching financial close? What dynamics are shaping a world-leading government funding program critical to driving large-scale change? How are corporates addressing decarbonization pathways through target setting, disclosures, and financing of clean technologies? This event is sold out. Please email Nicholas Bobst (nbobst@rmi.org) to add your name to the waitlist.
